10.3 MW delivered to Galten Heating Plant
Galten Varmeværk has reduced its reliance on wood chips with two air-to-water plants supplied and installed by Solid Energy. An investment that helps reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions and supports a stable heating price over time.

Galten Heating Works supplies approximately 2,200 households with district heating in Galten-Skovby, west of Aarhus. The utility is co-owned and non-profit, and the consumer's heating bill is the most important parameter when assessing new investments.
In 2019, the choice was between two alternatives: to invest in a costly electrofilter to meet the stringent emission requirements of chip-incineration plants, or to switch out the base load. The board chose the latter, and Solid Energy was chosen as a partner.
2019:3.3 MW heat pump installation and reduction of wood chips consumption
First plant will be delivered and installed by Solid Energy in 2019. A 3.3 MW air-to-water plant at Røddikvej in Galten. The plant helps to reduce the need for heat generation based on wood chips.
2021—22: Tripling of total capacity
In 2021-2022, the capacity will be significantly expanded by an additional 7.0 MW, thus tripling the total power. The plant will be commissioned in 2022 with a total heat pump capacity of 10.3 MW, and the wood chips are now primarily used for tip and reserve loads.
Efficient and flexible work
With the two Solid Energy plants, the share of fuel-free production increases significantly. Operation is dynamically controlled according to the electricity price: when wind power generation is high and electricity price low, the heat pumps run at full power. This makes Galten District Heating one of the country's most efficient district heating plants, and their production is flexible with several different energy sources to optimize operations based on.

Facts:
- Today the plant is equipped with both heat pumps, wood chip boilers, absorption heat pump and gas boiler for peak and reserve loads
- The total heating demand for Galten Varmeværk is estimated at approximately 50,000 MWh annually, with an expected increase to approximately 55,000 MWh by 2028.

Geothermal breakthrough in Aarhus: District heat now flows from the earth's interior
In Aarhus, one of Europe's most visionary district heating projects is now in operation. For the first time, geothermal heat from a depth of 2,500 metres flows directly into the radiators of thousands of Aarhus homes — and this is done with the help of heat pumps from Solid Energy.
