Solid Energy's heat pump is the star of new heating era
Slagelse is entering a new era where sustainable district heating takes over from waste incineration. Following the closure of the city's waste incineration plant, which supplied heat to 7,500 households, it is now a modern, renewable district heating solution which is taking over.

Waste incineration has long been the quick fix -- easy but dirty. With heavy emissions and increasing CO₂ emissions, this method has proven to be a serious burden on our climate. Slagelse has now turned the leaf and says goodbye to the uncertain solutions of the past.
Slagelse bets on flexible devices
Slagelse is planning on a future where sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand. A ground-breaking 10 MW heat pump from Solid Energy opens the door to a new era of clean, stable and economical district heating — a solution that shows both vision and drive.
The large 10 MW air-to-water heat pump, which is at the heart of this green transition, is integrated with the cogeneration plant at Assensvej and consists of three flexible units that adjust production to current demand.
By utilizing outdoor air and waste heat, the heat pump ensures efficient production, with much of the area's heat already coming from renewable sources such as solar heat — now with the heat pump as the new star.
Innovation means greener heat
The project at Slagelse marks a decisive step towards district heating production based solely on renewable energy.
The collaboration between Envafors and Aalborg CSP reinforces the vision of a single energy supply where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.
Solid Energy's heat pump and Aalborg CSP's visions are essential to making greener heat not just a dream of the future, but a concrete reality. Slagelse's citizens now not only get a stable and economically advantageous heat supply — they get a cleaner, greener future.
